Bangalore’s Stonehill International School student, Himaneesh Sompalle, has become the youngest Indian to win a medal at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) 2025 in Beijing. At just 14 years old, he brought home a Bronze Medal, competing against participants from over 60 countries.
The Olympiad, one of the toughest competitions for students worldwide, focuses on artificial intelligence and its applications. Himaneesh’s achievement is a rare milestone for India at the event.
He earned his place on Team India through a four-stage national selection process. The final round, held at IIIT Hyderabad, included ten days of lectures and evaluations. Participants faced six-hour assessments in advanced mathematics, algorithms, and programming. Experts from Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, IBM, and senior professors from IIIT and IIT Hyderabad evaluated the candidates.
Stonehill International School praised Himaneesh’s dedication. “We are proud of Himaneesh. His success reflects our emphasis on technological innovation”, said Joe Lumsden, Head of School. Himaneesh also thanked his teachers for supporting him early in exploring AI, which gave him confidence to push his limits.
