Indonesia Distributes 288,000 Panels To Digitize Schools

    • Indonesia distributes 288,000 interactive flat panels (IFPs) to 50,000 schools to enhance digital learning across the country, including remote regions
    • Plans to expand digital access and teacher support, with remote instruction from Jakarta and development of low-cost connectivity for schools with poor internet
    • Government prioritizes education investment, aiming to increase IFPs per school to four by next year and continue enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes

President Prabowo Subianto revealed that approximately 50,000 schools have been given a total of 288,000 interactive flat panels (IFPs) by the government to facilitate the digital learning process.

"We will give one 75-inch interactive flat panel per school this year", he stated at a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the distribution of IFPs is part of the government's initiative to make education digitalized throughout Indonesia, including in distant regions with poor access and teacher facilities. A total of 288,000 IFPs this year will be distributed, including thousands of pieces of learning contents, according to the President.

He added that the government will also use the best instructors to teach remotely from a central Jakarta studio, enabling schools in isolated regions to be networked. The government is also developing a low-cost connectivity technology to enable schools in areas with poor internet connectivity to stay connected to the digital learning system.

President Prabowo explained that next year the number of IFPs per school would be raised to four, and two more IFPs are scheduled for each school by 2027. He confirmed that he had been told by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in a report that children's interest in going to school has grown, partly because of the digitalization of the learning process.

"I believe this is crucial. We need to prioritize the greatest investment for our people investing in our children, our human capital", he explained. Monday's plenary cabinet meeting also coincided with the first year of President Prabowo's government since his inauguration on October 20, 2024.

In the meeting, the President mentioned various achievements of the government programs, among which is the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program that has reached 36.7 million beneficiaries.
