- Korea’s Ministry of Education invests 2 billion won in AI-driven special education research.
- KENTECH selected as the only science and engineering university in the project.
- Research aims to build the world’s first AI-powered classroom for special schools.
The Korea Energy Technology University (KENTECH) Learning Design Institute has been chosen for the Ministry of Education’s Global Humanities and Social Convergence Research Support Project. This project, funded with 2 billion won over three years, will focus on developing customized AI classrooms to transform special education.
KENTECH is the only specialized science and engineering university selected. The institute will run the research until August 2028 with a team of experts in education, AI, and policy from Jungbu University and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
The goal is to create the world’s first AI-powered special school classroom. The system will analyze cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social data of students in real time. It will provide personalized support, predict student behavior, and strengthen communication between teachers, parents, and schools.

Researchers expect the project to deliver a new education model that supports the holistic growth of students. The multimodal data collected will also be used to design new teaching methods and guide education policies.
“This study is not just about using AI as a tool but making it a core driver of inclusive and data based education,” said Kim Kyung, head of the Learning Design Institute. Acting President Park Jin-ho added that the project reflects KENTECH’s commitment to social responsibility and innovation in education.
