UOB Powers Digital Learning in Indonesia

    • UOB and Indonesian edtech platform Ruangguru have launched a 5 year programme to teach digital skills to 90,000 students across Indonesia.
    • The initiative focuses on critical and computational thinking to prepare students for an AI driven world.
    • It also aims to close Indonesia’s growing digital literacy gap, currently at just over 43%.

In a major push to bridge Indonesia’s digital literacy gap, UOB has partnered with edtech platform Ruangguru to train 90,000 students across all 38 provinces of the country. The five year initiative is part of UOB’s My Digital Space programme, which aims to equip students with essential critical and computational thinking skills needed in the digital economy.

The programme will reach students in 500 schools each year, providing them with digital tools and a future focused curriculum. It supports the Indonesian government’s Asta Cita vision for national development by enhancing digital learning access across both urban and rural regions.

Hendra Gunawan, President Director of UOB Indonesia, said the initiative lays the foundation for Indonesia’s digital future. “Building strong foundations in education is key to unlocking national potential. We are proud to partner with Ruangguru to empower young minds”, he said.

According to the 2024 Indonesian Digital Society Index, the country’s digital literacy score stands at 43.34%, showing only a slight improvement from 2023. UOB said this highlights the urgent need to scale up digital education.

Belva Devara, CEO of Ruangguru, added, “By combining Ruangguru’s technology with UOB’s community support, we are helping students unlock their full potential and become future-ready”.

The launch event in Jakarta was attended by senior government officials, including Coordinating Minister Dr Pratikno. This initiative also forms part of UOB’s regional pledge to support 250,000 students across Southeast Asia by 2030, with an expected total impact of S$120 million.
