Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology arm of Alibaba Group, has joined hands with De La Salle University (DLSU) to boost artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing education in the Philippines. The collaboration falls under the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP), aimed at equipping students and faculty with essential digital skills through training, certification, and practical learning opportunities.
“This partnership will provide our students with the tools and experiences needed to excel in these critical fields”, said Shirley Chu, Assistant Dean for External Affairs and Lasallian Mission at DLSU's College of Computer Studies.
The AAEP initiative works with academic institutions to deliver educational content, tools, and certification programs tailored to the evolving digital landscape. Through this partnership, DLSU students will gain access to industry-focused courses, hands-on labs, and recognized certifications from Alibaba Cloud.
Allen Guo, General Manager for the Philippines at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said, “Alibaba Cloud is dedicated to bringing digital intelligence to academic institutions in the Philippines through our academic empowerment program”.
The program officially began in April 2025 with an 'AI Learning Journey' session that introduced students to AI fundamentals and Alibaba Cloud’s suite of tools. A follow-up session in June will dive into practical cloud computing skills, including deployment and infrastructure management.
Workshops are designed primarily for computer science students and related disciplines. Participants will also benefit from access to free online courses via the Alibaba Cloud Academy, which offers over 250 courses and 270 lab exercises across 19 languages. The academy has already trained more than 500,000 learners globally in partnership with over 110 institutions across 23 countries.
