Sanskaar Shaala, a value-based programme for children aged between four and fourteen years, was inaugurated on Sunday at the Lohia Lions Auditorium in Guwahati by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that goodwill and good wishes form the essence of India’s cultural ethos and value system. Quoting the Sanskrit maxim “Sanskarah hi gunanam moolam”, he said that values are the root of all virtues and play a defining role in shaping an individual’s personality as well as maintaining harmony in society.
While formal education equips children with knowledge and skills, Acharya said values guide human conduct and help mould individuals into responsible and noble citizens. Emphasising the importance of value-based education, he remarked that children, as the future of the nation, must be introduced to Indian values, social responsibility and family traditions at an early age.
He appreciated Sanskaar Shaala as a meaningful initiative to preserve and promote India’s rich moral and cultural heritage and extended his best wishes for its success. Referring to India’s ancient civilisational wisdom, the Governor said the teachings of the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita continue to offer timeless guidance on truth, duty and righteousness. In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, he added, progress must be balanced with morality, compassion and discipline to remain meaningful.
He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing rapidly while remaining rooted in its cultural values, and said initiatives like Sanskaar Shaala play an important role in nurturing value-oriented citizens. Praising the Marwari community for its strong emphasis on ethics, charity and social responsibility, he expressed hope that more organisations would undertake similar efforts to build a morally sound and harmonious society. Several dignitaries, including Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Sammelan National President Pawan Goenka, organising secretary Basant Surana and North-East Regional Marwari Sammelan President Kailash Kabra, were present on the occasion.

Later in the day, the Governor attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Guwahati Blind High School at Basistha. Congratulating the students, teachers, staff and alumni on completing fifty years of dedicated service, Acharya said a society’s true progress is reflected in the dignity, inclusion and opportunities it provides to persons with disabilities.
He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision that persons with disabilities are an integral part of the nation’s human resources and spoke about key initiatives such as the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Accessible India Campaign. The Governor also referred to Assam Government initiatives under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, including the supply of Braille books, assistive devices, scholarships and improved infrastructure.
Appreciating the school’s inclusive and holistic approach, he said the effective use of modern technology has enabled visually impaired students to actively participate in mainstream education. Lauding the institution’s achievements in academics, culture and sports, he congratulated former students Himakhi Devi and Simu Das for their national and international accomplishments. Encouraging students, he said education is the strongest path to self-reliance and confidence, adding that true light resides not in the eyes, but in the mind and intellect.
