The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has announced the establishment of two new regional National Early Careers Groups (NECGs) to help members in the early years of their professional careers. The new groups launched NECG Australasia and NECG Malaysia and South East Asia come in response to the growing need for region-based support, networking, and development opportunities for recent graduates and young professionals.
These additions complement the current NECG for the UK and Ireland to create a wider network that serves IChemE members under 35 years. The move is aimed at assisting early career professionals in developing their technical and professional competencies as well as broadening their personal and professional networks. IChemE has provisionally enrolled qualified members into the corresponding regional group, with the benefit of getting instant access to resources and opportunities specific to their geographical and professional environment.
The institution insisted that community in professional development was crucial, asking members to be actively involved in their regional NECG using the IChemE Connect, the organization's online forum. With membership in the groups, members are able to learn from shared experience, mentorship, and knowledge of industry practices in various regions.

IChemE also encouraged the young professionals to become leaders by stepping forward to be part of their group's committee. This allows members a chance to have input in the planning of upcoming events, initiatives, and developmental activities for their regional NECG. The committees, as per the institution, have an important role to plan activities that are relevant, interesting, and of value to early career chemical engineers.
The formation of the NECG Australasia and NECG Malaysia and South East Asia is a demonstration of IChemE's continued dedication to world-wide inclusiveness and region-specific member engagement. As the chemical engineering community continues to develop in response to opportunities and challenges within regions, these new forums are poised to serve as a means for younger members to interact, cooperate, and excel in their professions.
