- Imperial College London and Trumptech sign MoU to jointly develop science teacher training programs for Hong Kong's new primary science curriculum.
- The initiative, funded by the UK Department for Business and Trade, includes a three-year partnership to create online learning materials via Imperial's Institute of Extended Learning (IEL).
- The collaboration aims to combine Imperial's STEM expertise with Trumptech's EdTech capabilities, strengthening UK-Hong Kong education ties.
Imperial College London hosted Trumptech, one of Hong Kong's top digital education providers, on campus this week. The visit was an important step in building international education relationships as Imperial and Trumptech cemented a new alliance with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The ceremony marked the inauguration of a new collaboration to improve science teacher education in Hong Kong. Trumptech provides digital education solutions to schools in Hong Kong, and under this partnership, Imperial and Trumptech will jointly offer a set of collaborative education programs.
The MOU was executed on behalf of Imperial by Professor Peter Haynes, Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) and Ming Kwok, CEO of Trumptech.
In the same event, Heather Haseley, Managing Director of the Institute of Extended Learning (IEL), reaffirmed plans for a three-year partnership with Trumptech to create online science teaching materials in response to the new Hong Kong primary science curriculum. The signed agreement, which will be digital by July's end, is the beginning of a project that will subsequently extend to assist secondary school teachers.
The initiative is funded by the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT). The Hong Kong Secretary for Education made a visit to Imperial in May to hear about the university's experience in facilitating STEMMB education in primary and secondary schools, as well as the development and design of associated teaching materials for schools. Members from both organisations were present at the ceremony, witnessing the significance of the partnership in enhancing UK-Hong Kong education links.

Professor Peter Haynes, Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) stated "This collaboration is an exciting initiative for Imperial to help fund the training of primary school teachers in Hong Kong through our Institute of Extended Learning. By bringing together our expertise in preparing teachers to teach effective science lessons with Trumptech's local expertise and digital connectivity, we will help nurture a lifelong enthusiasm for science among school children throughout the region".
The IEL is Imperial's central place for creating and delivering innovative, adaptive learning experiences that leverage the university's presence beyond conventional degree programmes. The Professional Development and Summer Programmes and Interdisciplinary EdTech Lab teams collaborate with international partners to co-design transformative education that addresses the changing demands of learners and teachers across the world.
Heather Haseley, Institute of Extended Learning Managing Director, stated "We are thrilled to collaborate with Trumptech in the planning of personalized learning experiences that prepare primary teachers with the information, competencies, and instruments to stimulate the next generation of scientists in Hong Kong".
Ming Kwok, Trumptech's CEO, stated "This collaboration brings Imperial's educational strength together with Trumptech's best-in-class educational technology to better prepare Hong Kong science teachers for the future. We are building a solid foundation for significant contributions to education in the region by leveraging Trumptech's large footprint and online reach".
