Korea University, NMC Collaborate on AI Education Program

    • Korea University and Northern Marianas College advance AI education partnership
    • Program to provide skills, training, and job-ready expertise in AI
    • Collaboration strengthens international academic exchange and innovation

Northern Marianas College (NMC) and Korea University are moving forward with plans to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) education program aimed at enhancing skills and creating career opportunities for students. The initiative builds on discussions first held in November and will be formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

On Wednesday, a delegation led by Korea University Professor Jung Changduk, Ph.D., visited NMC President Dr. Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero to continue talks on the partnership. Professor Jung, who also serves as president of Naju University and Global University, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and highlighted plans for an upcoming AI forum to launch the inter-university program.

President Deleon Guerrero welcomed the delegation and emphasized the value of international collaboration. “AI is all about connection, and this partnership represents learning, innovation, and shared growth”, he said. The program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience, technical training, and exposure to global AI expertise, strengthening career readiness in technology-driven fields.

Joe B. Palacios, who helped arrange the meetings, noted that the initiative reflects a community-focused approach. “This program brings resources and expertise to CNMI at no cost to the local government, while creating opportunities for students and the wider community”, he said.

The MoU will allow Korea University to establish an off-campus site for its Science and Technology program, bringing faculty, curriculum, and research resources to NMC. Students will gain access to cutting-edge AI knowledge, skill development, and international academic exchange, preparing them for careers in technology, business, and research.

This collaboration underscores the growing importance of AI education in preparing students for global job markets and equipping them with practical skills for the digital economy.
