Korean Embassy Expands Korean Language Education in Nepal

    • The Embassy promotes Korean language education through schools and institutes across Nepal.
    • 600 Korean textbooks are distributed to support students and curriculum development.
    • Teacher training programs enhance skills and create career opportunities for aspiring educators.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal is actively promoting Korean language education across the country. The 2026 Korean Language Promotion Day was recently held at Bishwo Bhasa Campus in Kathmandu to highlight growing interest in learning Korean among Nepalese students.

Korean Ambassador Tae-young Park attended the event and encouraged organizations like Hangeul School and the King Sejong Institute to further expand Korean language programs. He emphasized that cultural and language exchanges strengthen bilateral ties between Nepal and Korea.

The Embassy collaborates closely with institutions such as the EPS Centre, Tribhuvan University, and local higher secondary schools to support Korean language education. Each year, they conduct surveys to assess demand for Korean textbooks in schools offering Korean as an optional subject. In 2026, the Embassy is distributing 600 Korean textbooks to relevant schools, including 100 books donated to a high school in Lumbini Province. Some schools are also planning to include Korean as an optional subject in the Secondary Education Examination (S.E.E).

To build skilled educators, 36 prospective Korean language teachers completed training courses at Bishwo Bhasa Campus in 2023 and 2024, supported with USD 63,000 in funding. These programs aim to enhance teaching quality and create career opportunities in language education.

Through these initiatives, the Korean Embassy is not only promoting language learning but also helping Nepalese students develop skills that can open doors to global education and employment opportunities, while strengthening Nepal-Korea cultural and educational ties.
