NIT Warangal and Saptagon Asia Sign MoU to Advance Infrastructure R&D

  • The National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Saptagon Asia Private Limited to promote collaborative research in transportation engineering and advanced infrastructure technology. The agreement focuses on technical innovation, consultancy, training, technology development and stronger industry-academia partnership.

    NITW Director Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi described the collaboration as an important step in bringing cutting-edge research closer to real-world needs. He appreciated the role of Prof. S. Shankar, the institute’s single-point contact for the MoU, in introducing advanced transportation technologies to the campus. Prof. Subudhi said the partnership would help the Transportation Division undertake high-impact work that supports India’s infrastructure goals under the Viksit Bharat and Make in India visions.

    As part of the collaboration, Saptagon Asia demonstrated its Laser Dynamic Deflectometer (LDD)-based road pavement evaluation vehicle. The specialised system, valued at around Rs 30 crore, uses advanced laser technology to assess pavement conditions quickly and accurately. Faculty members and students of transportation engineering observed the demonstration and discussed its potential applications in pavement evaluation, infrastructure asset management and research.

    Traditional methods such as the Benkelman Beam Deflection and Falling Weight Deflectometer have long been used for pavement assessment, but they are relatively slower and more labour-intensive. The LDD system offers a faster, data-driven alternative that can improve the efficiency of road condition surveys and support better planning for maintenance and rehabilitation.

    The MoU creates a broad framework for joint research and development, consultancy projects, workshops, seminars, technical lectures, industrial training, internships and live industry projects. It also covers the development of advanced engineering methodologies and the exploration of AI-enabled infrastructure solutions. Both sides expect the partnership to give students practical exposure while allowing faculty to engage with current industry challenges.

    Officials noted that such collaborations are becoming increasingly important as India expands its road network and invests in modern infrastructure. Advanced evaluation tools and skilled professionals are essential for maintaining the quality and longevity of highways and urban roads. By bringing specialised equipment and industry expertise into the academic environment, the agreement is expected to raise the standard of research and improve the readiness of graduates for professional roles.

    Prof. Subudhi underlined that the collaboration aligns with the national push for technological self-reliance. Combining NITW’s academic strengths with Saptagon Asia’s practical experience and specialised systems is intended to produce solutions suited to Indian conditions. The partnership is also expected to open avenues for joint research proposals, student training programmes and the co-creation of new methods for pavement evaluation and asset management.

    For NIT Warangal, the MoU strengthens its position as a centre for advanced work in transportation engineering. For Saptagon Asia, it provides access to academic talent and research facilities that can support the further development and application of its technologies. Both institutions view the agreement as the start of a longer relationship that can grow through shared projects and knowledge exchange.

    As India continues to prioritise infrastructure modernisation, partnerships that link research institutions with technology providers are likely to play a key role. The NITW–Saptagon Asia MoU represents a practical step in that direction, bringing academic insight and industrial capability together to address the challenges of building and maintaining high-quality transportation infrastructure across the country.
