Saudi Arabia has taken a major step to future-proof its workforce by launching a national artificial intelligence and data curriculum for university students across the Kingdom. The initiative is led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and aims to ensure every graduate has basic skills in data and AI, regardless of their field of study.
The cross-disciplinary curriculum was announced during the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building held in Riyadh in late January. The event was organized by SDAIA in collaboration with King Saud University, with support from the Human Capability Development Program and technology firm Elm.
The new curriculum focuses on practical learning. It introduces students to core data concepts, responsible use of AI tools, and real-world applications that support learning, work, and decision-making. All undergraduate students, whether studying business, health, engineering, humanities, or science are included.
Under the framework, universities can introduce a mandatory AI and data course across all programs. The goal is to create a shared foundation of data literacy and AI understanding throughout Saudi Arabia’s higher education system.
SDAIA also aims to move AI education beyond computer science classrooms. Non-technical students will learn how AI applies to their future careers, helping them use digital tools effectively in their industries. This approach supports skill development that employers increasingly demand.
