The initiative aims to enhance academic exchange, skill development, language training, and career opportunities linked to Japan, strengthening educational and industry collaboration between the two countries.
SGT University, one of India’s emerging centers for higher education and global engagement, has taken a major step toward strengthening international academic collaboration with the launch of the Japan Education and Skill Development Cell (JESDC). Established in partnership with the Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC) under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the initiative is designed to deepen India-Japan educational cooperation, promote skill development, and create meaningful opportunities for students seeking international academic and professional exposure.
The inauguration ceremony marked a significant milestone in SGT University’s internationalization strategy, reflecting its commitment to preparing students for an increasingly globalized workforce. Presiding over the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Hemant Verma emphasized the growing importance of international academic partnerships in higher education. He noted that collaborations with global organizations and institutions are essential for equipping students with the skills, cultural awareness, and professional competencies required to succeed in today’s interconnected world. According to him, initiatives such as JESDC will help create future-ready graduates who can compete effectively in international environments.
The event brought together several distinguished representatives from prominent Japanese organizations and institutions, highlighting the growing strength of India-Japan relations in the fields of education, industry, and workforce development. Among the keynote speakers were Rahul Mishra, Chairman of Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC); Takashi Suzuki, Chief Director General of JETRO; Koji Sato, Director General of The Japan Foundation; Kuriyama Akira, JICA Expert deputed to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC); and Tomoya Miyamoto, Senior Secretary of JCCII.

Takashi Suzuki underscored the rapid growth of Japanese companies operating in India and stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries. He noted that success in international workplaces requires more than technical expertise, emphasizing that Japanese language learning, cultural understanding, and professional skill development must go hand in hand to meet industry expectations.
Similarly, Koji Sato highlighted the increasing global interest in Japanese language education and praised educational institutions that actively promote cross-cultural awareness. He stated that language proficiency combined with cultural understanding can significantly enhance students’ ability to participate in international academic and professional environments.
Kuriyama Akira described the initiative as an important step toward building a robust India-Japan talent corridor, emphasizing that language skills and cultural competence are becoming critical requirements for accessing global employment opportunities. Tomoya Miyamoto echoed these views, noting that proficiency in Japanese can open doors to specialized careers in sectors such as manufacturing, research, technology, and international trade.
The Japan Education and Skill Development Cell has been jointly conceptualized by the Centre for Foreign Languages and the Office of International Relations at SGT University, working closely with the Indo Japan Chamber of Commerce. Under the MoU framework, both organizations will collaborate on a structured roadmap focused on academic exchange programs, industry-oriented skill development, employer engagement, and future partnerships with Japanese universities and corporations.
Beyond language instruction, the newly established cell is envisioned as a comprehensive platform that will facilitate student internships in Japan, research collaborations, academic mobility programs, and international employment opportunities. By combining language training, cultural immersion, industry alignment, and career development, the initiative seeks to create measurable outcomes that benefit students while strengthening long-term educational and professional ties between India and Japan. The launch of JESDC represents a new chapter in global education, reinforcing SGT University’s commitment to international excellence and expanding opportunities for students in an increasingly interconnected world.
