Telangana Offers Rs 20 Lakh Aid For Minority Students Abroad

  • Synopsis
Telangana has announced financial assistance of up to ₹20 lakh for eligible minority students pursuing higher education abroad. The initiative aims to improve access to global academic opportunities, reduce financial barriers, and support students in achieving advanced educational and career goals.

The Telangana Minorities Welfare Department has officially invited applications for the Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2026 (Spring Season), providing a major opportunity for eligible minority students to pursue postgraduate programs, doctoral studies, and Ph.D. degrees abroad with substantial financial assistance. The scholarship initiative is aimed at supporting talented students from minority communities in achieving their academic aspirations at leading international universities while reducing the financial burden associated with overseas education.

The online application process began on June 1 and will remain open until June 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Through this flagship overseas scholarship program, the Telangana government seeks to encourage greater participation of minority students in global higher education and equip them with international exposure, advanced academic training, and research opportunities that can contribute to both personal and professional growth.

The Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme is available to minority students who have secured admission to recognized foreign universities for postgraduate or doctoral programs during the Spring 2026 academic intake. Students admitted between January 1, 2026, and June 30, 2026, are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The program is designed to assist deserving candidates who wish to pursue advanced studies in globally competitive educational environments but may face financial challenges in funding their education abroad.

One of the most attractive features of the scheme is the significant financial support offered to selected candidates. Under the program, beneficiaries can receive financial assistance of up to ₹20 lakh, helping cover a substantial portion of tuition fees and other educational expenses associated with studying overseas. In addition, students are eligible for a one-way airfare allowance of up to ₹60,000 or the actual airfare cost, whichever is lower. This support is intended to make international education more accessible and affordable for students from minority communities across Telangana.

The scholarship covers higher education opportunities in several of the world’s leading study destinations. Eligible students pursuing courses in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany, South Korea, Japan, France, and New Zealand can apply for the financial assistance. These countries are home to many globally ranked universities and research institutions, offering students access to high-quality education, cutting-edge research facilities, and international career opportunities.

Education experts note that overseas scholarship initiatives such as this play a crucial role in promoting academic excellence and global competitiveness. By supporting students in obtaining international qualifications, governments can help create a highly skilled workforce capable of contributing to economic development, innovation, and research advancements upon their return to India. The scheme also aligns with broader efforts to improve access to higher education and encourage academic mobility among underrepresented communities.

Interested applicants must complete the online application process through the official Telangana ePASS portal. While the online registration window closes on June 30, 2026, candidates are also required to submit physical copies of relevant documents to their respective District Minorities Welfare Offices by July 31, 2026. The department has emphasized that all supporting documents, including original graduation or postgraduate transcripts, must be authentic and verifiable.

To ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the selection process, parents of applicants are required to be present in person during document submission and verification. Officials have warned that strict verification procedures will be conducted and that legal action may be initiated against individuals found submitting forged or fraudulent documents.

With international education becoming increasingly important in today’s global economy, the Telangana Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2026 represents a valuable opportunity for minority students to pursue world-class education, gain international exposure, and build successful careers in academia, research, technology, healthcare, business, and other professional fields. The initiative reinforces Telangana’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and empowering students through access to global learning experiences and advanced higher education pathways.
