  • In a major step towards enhancing global academic cooperation and cultural exchange, a group of officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to India called on Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to explore possible collaboration and a common student exchange program with Indonesian institutions.

The delegation, headed by Her Excellency Ms. Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to India and Bhutan, had long discussions with the AMU administration in the Selection Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor's Office. The discussions touched on a broad range of academic activities, such as student and faculty exchange, collaborative research and publications, curriculum development, sharing best practices, and the promotion of language and cultural studies, especially in the context of their common Indo-Islamic heritage.

Attending Her Excellency were Mr. Aldrin Herwany (Education and Cultural Attaché), Mr. Musoni (First Secretary – Political Affairs), and Mr. Adhy Buwono (First Secretary – Consular & Indonesia Citizenship Protection).

The AMU administration received the Indonesian delegation warmly, which comprised Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS), Registrar; Prof. Raziuddin, Dean of Students' Welfare; Prof. Asfar Khan, Officer on Special Duty; Prof. Wasim Ali, Proctor; and Prof. Vibha Sharma, Member In-Charge, Public Relations Office, and other top officials.

The session included both sides making presentations and having an extensive discussion on a Common Minimum Programme that will be formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future. Her Excellency hailed AMU as a "prestigious institution of higher learning with global reputation."

During her address to the delegation, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon emphasized, "AMU has a national character and upholds a high standard of education that consistently attracts international students. These students serve as ambassadors for their nations and are important in creating mutual understanding and building relations between countries."

After the meeting, the Indonesian delegation, led by Public Relations Officer Mr. Omar S. Peerzada and accompanied by Mr. M. Asif Khan, paid visit to historic Sir Syed House and Sir Syed Hall to pay tribute to the founder of the university, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The visit concluded with a cordial interaction during a reception organized by Indonesian students who are presently pursuing their studies at AMU.

This upper-level involvement represents an important milestone in AMU's initiative to develop its international academic presence and advance more substantial educational linkages.
