The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recently approved state-run Philippine Normal University (PNU) to administer nine Education equivalency courses in the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), PNU president Bert Tuga announced.
The nine courses include English; Early Childhood; Mathematics; Science with Specialization in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics; Filipino; Culture and Arts; Social Science; Values; and Physical and Health. The implementation of the program was subject to recertification upon the release of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 12124 or the ETEEAP Act.
The PNU College of Alternative and Lifelong Learning (CALL), which oversees the ETEEAP, made its recertification possible through CHED Technical Panel members, who acted as assessors.
PNU-CALL Dean Ilanan was a resource speaker during the Senate hearings before EETAP was enacted into law. She spoke about PNU's role as a deputized implementer of the program.
Professional development program
The PNU College of Teacher Development (PNU-CTD) meanwhile introduced the Faculty Immersion in Basic Education for Reform in Teacher Education (FIBER), a professional development program for faculty members with little or no teaching experience in basic education.
The interns from the faculty will enhance their lesson planning, test item construction, and instruction to primary and secondary students, with PNU instructors Annabelle Palmiery, Marivic Pimentel, Edwin Auditor, Daniel Day Aguilon, Lorena Castro, and Giselle Pauline Paraan as guiding mentors.
PNU, which was formerly the Philippine Normal School, was established Jan. 21, 1901, through Act No. 74 of the Philippine Commission as a public school for the education of teachers. It was opened on September 1, 1901.
