UAE Honours Teachers Ahead of World Teachers' Day 2026

  • The United Arab Emirates has paid heartfelt tribute to its teachers ahead of World Teachers’ Day, with Education Minister Sarah Al Amiri underscoring the central role educators play in shaping minds, values and the nation’s long-term development.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Education, Ms Al Amiri said the annual occasion, observed on 5 October under the auspices of UNESCO, embodies a shared appreciation for a noble mission that broadens the horizons of societies. “Teachers instil confidence, values and a passion for knowledge in students,” she noted, emphasising their enduring importance to the UAE.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated globally each year to recognise the contributions of educators and to reflect on the support they need to realise their full potential. In the UAE the day carries particular resonance, given the country’s rapid transformation and its sustained investment in human capital. Ms Al Amiri described teachers as vital partners in the UAE’s development journey, helping to prepare generations that have carried the nation’s ambitions and actively participated in its progress.

Her remarks highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between the education sector and the broader goals of the country. From the founding vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to the present-day priorities of economic diversification, sustainability and innovation, successive generations of teachers have been instrumental in translating national aspirations into classroom realities.

The minister stressed that the UAE leadership’s consistent support for teachers reflects a firm belief in their vital role and a clear commitment to empowering them to develop their professional capabilities. Continuous professional development programmes, competitive compensation frameworks and modern learning environments form part of a wider strategy to attract and retain high-calibre educators.

Ms Al Amiri also underlined the importance of collaboration between teachers and families. She said that when schools and homes work together, students receive a solid foundation for growth and learning, better preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of the future. This partnership, she argued, is essential in an era of rapid technological change and evolving skill requirements.

Extending her congratulations to education professionals across the country, the minister expressed pride in their continued dedication and lasting impact on students’ lives. She highlighted their commitment to preparing knowledgeable and capable generations able to contribute confidently and effectively to the UAE’s ongoing development.

The Ministry of Education noted that teachers do far more than transmit academic content. They nurture curiosity, resilience and a sense of responsibility, qualities that underpin both individual success and collective national progress. In classrooms from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, educators work daily to equip young Emiratis and residents with the knowledge, skills and values needed to thrive in a knowledge-based economy.

World Teachers’ Day also serves as a moment for reflection on the future of the profession. Globally, education systems face challenges ranging from teacher shortages in certain subjects to the need for continuous upskilling in digital pedagogies. The UAE has responded with targeted initiatives, including specialised training pathways, leadership development programmes and the integration of artificial intelligence tools to support teaching and learning.

Ms Al Amiri’s message comes at a time when the UAE continues to rank among the region’s top performers in international education assessments and when significant numbers of Emirati and expatriate teachers are recognised for excellence through national awards. These achievements, the ministry said, are the result of sustained policy focus and the daily efforts of classroom practitioners.

Beyond formal recognition, the minister called for ongoing societal appreciation of the teaching profession. She noted that the respect and encouragement teachers receive from parents, communities and the wider public reinforce their motivation and sense of purpose. In turn, this positive environment benefits students, who see education valued as a cornerstone of personal and national advancement.

As schools across the UAE prepare to mark the day with assemblies, student-led tributes and professional development sessions, the ministry’s statement serves as both a celebration and a reaffirmation of commitment. Teachers remain, in the words of the minister, indispensable partners in the UAE’s journey toward a more knowledge-driven, innovative and inclusive future.

The annual observance of World Teachers’ Day therefore offers not only an opportunity to honour past and present contributions but also a platform to discuss how best to support the profession in the years ahead. By investing in teachers, the UAE invests in the generations who will shape its next chapter of progress.
