The Gyeonggi Job Foundation has announced the rollout of its Regional Youth Employment-Linked Internship Program, a major youth employment initiative in Gyeonggi Province designed to bridge the gap between education and real-world industry experience. Beginning in June, selected participants will start hands-on internships at more than 20 participating small and medium-sized enterprises, marking a significant step toward strengthening job-ready skills development for youth and improving long-term employment outcomes in the region.
This program is built on a collaborative regional employment model that brings together the Gyeonggi Job Foundation, local companies, regional universities, and municipal governments. The initiative focuses on providing structured, real-world training opportunities that allow young job seekers to gain practical exposure while directly connecting with potential employers. By embedding youth into active workplaces, the program aims to address the ongoing challenges of skills mismatch in the labor market and create smoother transitions from education to employment.
A total of selected youth participants will undergo a three-month internship program across diverse industries within Gyeonggi Province, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing, production support, and other key local economic sectors. The internships are designed to provide immersive, on-site experience where participants can develop technical abilities, workplace discipline, and industry-specific knowledge that cannot be fully gained in classrooms alone.
To ensure strong participation from companies, the Gyeonggi Job Foundation is offering financial support measures that include a monthly wage subsidy of 1.6 million won per participating company along with additional allowances for mentor activities. These incentives are intended to encourage businesses to actively invest time and resources into nurturing young talent through structured guidance and professional mentorship. Companies involved in the program are expected to play a central role in shaping the next generation of skilled workers by offering consistent hands-on training and workplace integration.

The initiative was developed with the participation of eight universities, including Hankyung National University, which worked alongside the foundation to identify suitable companies and recruit motivated youth participants. According to Kim Donghyun, Head of the Southern Business Division at the Gyeonggi Job Foundation, rapid changes driven by AI transformation and employment market disruption are making it increasingly difficult for young people to secure their first jobs. He noted that practical, field-based experience has become more essential than ever in preparing youth for competitive job environments.
Kim emphasized that the internship program aims to strengthen local employment ecosystems, encourage youth settlement in the region, and expand access to sustainable job opportunities. By connecting education, industry, and government support systems, the initiative seeks to build a more resilient workforce pipeline that supports both young job seekers and local enterprises.
