Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received an official luncheon in honour of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani Sadriu at Seri Perdana Complex here. Osmani and her party, who are in town for a four-day official visit, arrived at the official residence of the Prime Minister.
A delegation of 60 pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 8 (3) wore their school uniform to welcome the visiting president with beaming smiles while holding up the flags of both countries. In attendance was Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Earlier, Osmani was given an official welcome at Perdana Putra before having a bilateral meeting with Anwar.
The talks dwelled on ways to further improve bilateral relations, especially trade, investment, education, and people-to-people contacts, as well as Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean in 2025.
Malaysia became the first Southeast Asian country and one of the first countries from the region in Asia to recognise Kosovo on October 30, 2008. Wismpa Putra stated that formal diplomatic ties were established on March 18, 2011.
Total Malaysia-Kosovo bilateral trade amounted to RM28.55 million (US$6.0 million) in 2024, with exports from Malaysia to the republic standing at RM25.92 million (US$5.5 million) and imports at RM2.63 million (US$550,000).
Some of the most important Malaysian exports are palm oil, electrical and electronic goods, and manufactured items, while Malaysian imports from Kosovo are dominated by raw materials and semi-precious stones.
