Kwangwoon University Expands Industry-Academia Ties With Changzhou

    Kwangwoon University is advancing efforts to expand Kwangwoon University partnerships with Changzhou in Jiangsu Province as part of a growing push for deeper industry-academia collaboration with institutions in China. A six-member delegation from Changzhou recently visited the university campus in northeastern Seoul to explore structured cooperation models in education, research, and industrial innovation. The engagement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening academic exchange, talent development, and technology-driven cooperation through a long-term collaborative framework.

    The Changzhou delegation included officials led by Li Desen, governor of Zhonglou District, along with representatives from economic development zones and investment agencies, as well as business leaders from affiliated organizations. The group held high-level meetings in Seoul with senior leadership from the Kwangwoon Academy Foundation, alongside university administrators and academic coordinators. Discussions focused on aligning regional economic priorities with education-driven innovation and building structured channels for knowledge and workforce exchange.

    During the engagement, the university highlighted its strong academic foundation in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, robotics, and electronics, showcasing research initiatives led by its engineering departments. Faculty members presented ongoing projects that integrate advanced technologies with practical industrial applications to address real-world challenges. This engineering education approach is designed to produce highly skilled graduates capable of contributing directly to global technology industries and innovation ecosystems.

    The Changzhou representatives introduced their regional industrial development strategy, emphasizing rapid expansion in renewable energy, ICT, next-generation information and communications technology, and automobiles. Officials explained how these sectors are being strategically developed to support long-term economic transformation and technological advancement within the region. The discussions also explored how academic research partnerships could align with these industries to strengthen innovation capacity and workforce readiness.

    Cho Sun-young, chair of the Kwangwoon Academy Foundation, expressed hope that the meeting would serve as a foundation for sustained collaboration and shared institutional growth. Yoon Do-young, president of Kwangwoon University, emphasized leveraging Changzhou’s diverse industrial base to build meaningful educational and research linkages that benefit both sides. Jeong Suk-jae, vice president of the university, noted that establishing a structured industry-academia partnership and formal collaboration framework would be essential for achieving long-term mutual development between the university and Changzhou.
