UE Celebrates 79 Years, Offers Free College Entrance Tests

    • University of the East suspends college entrance test for 2026-2027 in celebration of its 79th founding anniversary.
    • UE will host free entrance tests, career seminars, and open house tours on Oct. 9-10, 2025, for incoming students.
    • 'Discover the UEverse' activities include research forums, employee recognition, masses, and showcases of UE’s academic, medical, and sports achievements.

The University of the East (UE) is turning its doors even wider to prospective students as it suspends the college entrance test for school year 2026-2027 in celebration of its 79th founding anniversary this week. In a press release Monday, UE president and chief academic officer Zosimo Battad underscored the university's unrelenting quest for academic excellence for close to eight decades now as a portal to learning of generations of Filipinos.

"We are honored to mark close to eight decades of serving our dear country, giving the Filipino youth affordable but quality education, and returning our share to nation-building through quality education, healthcare, and cultural and sporting excellence", said Battad.

"Additionally, to invite incoming first-year college students to our UE Manila and Caloocan campuses, we will be providing free college entrance tests, career seminars and open house tours, on Oct. 9 and 10, 2025, to all present Grade 12 students of public and private schools, and other potential first-year college students for school year 2026-2027", he added.

This year's observance, which is appropriately entitled 'Discover the UEverse', also includes masses, a research forum, employee recognition ceremonies, and other activities spearheaded by UP professor and ex-Education undersecretary Dina Ocampo. The project, according to Battad, also manifests the university's long-running quest for widening access to quality higher education.

Founded in 1946 as the Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration, and given university status in 1950, UE was bought in 1990 by business magnate and philanthropist Lucio Tan, who saw education as an investment toward molding the nation's future.

Apart from its primary Recto Avenue campus and Caloocan campus, it also maintains its medical school and hospital, the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC) in Quezon City, which is among the top medical schools in the country. The university also enjoys robust participation in sports with the UE Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) basketball. The UE Red Warriors boast one of the most enduring championship runs in the UUAP Basketball with seven consecutive titles, from 1965 to 1971.
