One such institution is the Islamic University of Lebanon (IUL), a prominent private university established in 1996. Situated south of Beirut, IUL is a non-profit institution with strong ties to the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council.

With over 1,800 students, the institute spans nine faculties, offering diverse academic programs. The university’s branches are strategically located in areas like Wardanieh, Tyre, Baalbek, South Matn Coast, and West Bekaa. Engineering Programs at IUL

IUL offers a diverse array of engineering programs designed to meet global industry standards and technological advancements. The four primary undergraduate programs include Computer and Communication Engineering (CCE), Biomedical Engineering (BME), Surveying Engineering, and Civil Engineering. Each program is carefully structured to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed in their respective fields.

The university places a strong focus on curriculum development, guided by an advisory board to ensure that courses remain aligned with the latest industry trends. For instance, the Civil Engineering program addresses unique regional challenges, such as restoration and waterproofing, while the Surveying Engineering program integrates emerging technologies like GeoAI and Remote Sensing.

Additionally, Biomedical Engineering students gain skills applicable to roles in hospitals, companies, or sales, enhancing their job readiness. The Computer and Communication Engineering program prepares students for diverse roles in the tech industry, combining expertise in both programming and communication technologies.

The institute also offers graduate programs, including a Master’s in Computer and Communication Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, further solidifying its commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the engineering field. These programs ensure that the graduates are well-equipped for the challenges of modern engineering careers.

IUL faces challenges in delivering quality engineering education due to Lebanon's economic crisis and political instability. The economic downturn affects students' financial stability, but the institute supports them with scholarships, financial aid, and flexible payment plans. Political instability disrupts academic schedules, but the university has adapted hybrid and online classes, providing flexibility for students during times of unrest. These strategies help ensure that engineering students continue their education despite the difficulties posed by the ongoing crisis and instability in Lebanon.
