Pennon Education is dedicated to preparing students with the skills and experiences required to succeed, from igniting curiosity in early elementary classrooms to helping teens discover possible career paths. The organization works with schools throughout Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster counties, providing in-class programs, teacher resources, and community outreach initiatives.
"We're deeply embedded in community engagement activities, which is likely what people identify us as most", explained Jennifer Eley, Director of Education. But we also have a deep presence in classrooms supporting the implementation of STEELS, that is, our new Pennsylvania science standards. We also do quite a bit around information literacy and social studies.
Eley described Pennon Education's purpose as to 'fill voids and provide opportunities for students that may not otherwise have those opportunities', typically through close collaboration with school districts. The strategy enables the organization to access students not only during standard school hours but also through summer camp, afterschool programs, and teacher professional development efforts.

One of Pennon Education's main areas of emphasis is career discovery and STEM education. Programs consistently expose students to coding, robotics, and even virtual reality technology. "We are constantly trying to research and stay current on new technologies so that students in our programs have exposure to those technologies and are truly able to explore career paths", Eley said.
By merging classroom support, cutting-edge STEM programming, and community involvement, Pennon Education hopes to increase opportunities for students at all levels of learning while setting them up for the changing needs of the future workforce.
