- ECAE to train 5,000 teachers on AI in education

The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) has launched the Horizons program, a nationwide training initiative to equip teachers with essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills for the classroom. The program, developed with the Ministry of Education, aims to train 5,000 educators in its first phase, supporting the UAE’s vision for a digitally advanced and inclusive education system.
Announced during GITEX Global 2025, Horizons will help teachers integrate AI effectively, ethically, and sustainably into their teaching practices. The training covers seven core areas, including AI basics, real-world applications, ethical use, innovation, policy-making, and community engagement.
Dr. May Laith Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, said the initiative strengthens the UAE’s global leadership in educational innovation. “The program empowers educators to use AI tools that enhance learning quality while reflecting Emirati values and ethics”, she said.
The launch follows findings from the TALIS 2024 report, which revealed that 75% of UAE teachers already use AI, well above the global average. The Horizons program builds on this momentum with a 20 hour training course across five workshops, offering hands-on experience with AI applications, ethical assessments, collaborative learning, and school wide innovation planning.

His Excellency Sulaiman Al Kaabi of the Ministry of Education added that the program supports the nation’s digital transformation goals while improving student engagement and outcomes.
Horizons draws on international frameworks like UNESCO’s AI Competency Model and the IBM AI Curriculum, and integrates UAE focused themes such as inclusion, sustainability, and cultural values.
