Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is significantly expanding its academic presence in Kyoto, marking a major step forward in the university’s long-term strategy to strengthen access to globally focused, English-language higher education in Japan. The expansion will allow students at the Kyoto location to complete full undergraduate degrees in high-demand disciplines including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Communication Studies, International Business Studies, General Studies, and Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management (THE), reflecting the institution’s growing focus on career-oriented and future-ready education.
The move comes amid rising student enrollment and increasing international demand for flexible, globally recognized academic programs in Japan. As one of the most prominent international universities operating in the country, Temple University Japan is positioning its Kyoto campus as an emerging educational hub for students seeking an American-style university experience while studying in one of Japan’s most culturally significant cities.
To support the academic expansion, TUJ will also enlarge its Kyoto facilities ahead of the summer semester beginning in May. The infrastructure upgrades are expected to enhance classroom capacity, improve technology resources, and create a stronger learning environment for both domestic and international students pursuing undergraduate education in Japan. The expansion reflects TUJ’s broader commitment to strengthening educational accessibility across different regions of the country while responding to changing workforce demands and student expectations.
One of the most notable additions is the new Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, which will now be available at the Kyoto campus. The program is designed to provide students with both technical expertise and applied learning opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. With global businesses increasingly integrating AI into operations, analytics, automation, and decision-making, the launch of the Artificial Intelligence degree program aligns closely with international employment trends and the growing need for highly skilled technology professionals.

At the same time, the Communication Studies program will provide students with a strong academic foundation in media, advertising, and communication strategy. Another standout offering is the Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management program, which takes advantage of Kyoto’s global reputation as one of the world’s leading cultural and tourism destinations.
